“RootsCity: A Better Way to Build Your Family Tree Online”

Talk Abstract:
With RootsCity you control who can read and edit your tree. You can
get hints from multiple record providers (FamilySearch, FindMyPast,
and others). You can compare your tree with other trees and see at a
glance which trees agree or disagree with yours and how highly the
trees are rated. RootsCity is source-centric, meaning that sources are
easy to add and strongly encouraged. It has a fresh user interface
(UI) that appeals to both genealogists and non-genealogists, making it
easy to share what you know with others. RootsCity is currently in
limited beta. The talk will include a key for free access to the beta.
Speaker Bio:
Dallan Quass creates family history websites. He has a Ph.D. in
computer science from Stanford University and B.S. and M.S. degrees
from BYU. Dallan has served as CTO of FamilySearch and a co-founder of
WhizBang! Labs, FlipDog.com (acquired by Monster.com), and Junglee
(acquired by Amazon.com). He is the developer of WeRelate.org, one of
the first genealogy wikis, GenGophers.com, like google books but for
genealogy, and the upcoming RootsCity.com.
