Aug 23d 1888  [Tuesday 23 Aug 1887 - year was 1887 from information contained in the letter]

Dear Georgiana [Georgiana Snow Thatcher, b. 1862] - I am again in Utah & well as usual except my eyes are still weak, but I have just got some glasses that help them much.

I left Juarez [Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico - http://www.mormoncoloniesinmexico.com/] Two weeks ago today (9th inst) [instant – Tuesday 9 Aug 1887] and Deming [Deming, Luna, New Mexico - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deming,_New_Mexico] on the 16th [Tuesday 16 Aug 1887]   Minerva [Minerva White Snow, b. 1822] + Willie Cluff late from City of Mexico [Mexico City, Mexico] [are] with me.  We came as emigrants and escaped recognition.  They went on to Ogden [Ogden, Utah] while I stoped [stopped = stayed] off at Provo and came thence by team to this place where I arrived last evening [Monday 21 Aug 1887] and met with Elders Woodruff [Wilford Woodruff], Cannon [George Q. Cannon], Richards [Franklin D. Richards] and others   Heber J. Grant [Elder Heber J. Grant] is reported poorly today and have not seen him nor any of your cousins but expect to this evening.  The Twelve [Quorum of Twelve Apostles] or a majority of them have been nearly a week in council and have now scattered and will meet again after a little.  They are gone both North & South.  Possibly I may take a run up to Gentile Valley [Weber County, Utah] to see Lucie [Lucy Simmons Snow 1855-1905] and her children and Willards [Willard Snow 1853-1936] folks in Ogden [Ogden, Utah] before I start South [to St. George, Utah].  Shall endeavour [endeavor] to connect with M. T. [Elder Moses Thatcher 1842-1909] during my trip.  I wish I could hear for you and have good news to report.  Since writing the above I learned by telegram from St. George [St. George, Utah] that Libbie [Elizabeth Ashby Snow Ivins 1854-1936] had a daughter [Leah Ivins Cardon 1887-1970] born last Thursday [Thursday 18 Aug 1887] and Lucy [Lucy Simmons Snow 1855-1905] one [Merle Snow 1887- ] Sunday [Sunday 21 Aug 1887].  Hope soon to hear you have furnished a Son to match them.  May God bless you & keep you safely.  Love to Flora [Florence Snow Woolley, b. 1856] & children and if D. [Edwin Dilworth Woolley, b. 1845] is there tell him he may expect to see or hear of me in that region by the end of September [Sep 1887].  Faithfully your devoted father   E. Snow [Erastus Snow 1818-1888]
