Salt Lake City June 29th 1883 [Salt Lake City, Utah Friday 29 Jun 1883]

Dear Elisabeth [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow, b. 1831] -  I wrote you a hurried Postal Card Tuesday [26 Jun 1883] on our arrival here promising to write again soon.   I have since been almost constantly in council [Quorum of the Twelve Apostles] or otherwise engaged.   Last night Minerva [Minerva White Snow, b. 1822] and I stayed [?] at Alonzo Hydes and greeted a Bevie of old friends, sisters who had met on the 68th Birth Day [birthday] of sister Marinda Hyde.   There we met sister Mary Ann Hyde with her crutches and her steel [?] instrument to support her Broken hip joint.   She looked and felt much better than I expected to see her.   She intends remaining a while here and then going to Sanpete [Sanpete, Utah].  Josephine [Josephine Snow, b. 1859] & Georgia [Georgiana Snow, b. 1862] had a fine time at Logan [Logan, Utah] and returned last night [Thursday 28 Jun 1883].   Home visited with them today at Heber Grants [Heber J. Grant].   Georgianna [Georgiana Snow, b. 1862] thinks of visiting next week in Provo [Provo, Utah] and starting home about the12 or 14th July [Thursday 12 Jul 1883 or Saturday 14 Jul 1883] with F. B. Woolley [Franklin Benjamin Woolley].   Josephine [Josephine Snow, b. 1859] thinks she will remain a while longer, but would like to go home by Upper Kanab [Kanab, Utah] if I return that way.   By the way how do you stand the hot weather and care of your house & family?   Won’t you have to take an out? [outing ?]   The weather has seemed as hot here this week as we have it in St. George.   I have met Chariton, Rodney, Henry & Julia.  Learn your folks [are] well as usual.  Louisa expects her [?] forty in a few days.

I see by Ashbys [Ashby Snow, b. 1867] telegram that the children got home yesterday and I presume Julia [Julia Josephine Spencer Snow, b. 1837] & Libbie [Elizabeth Ashby Snow Ivins, b. 1854] , are getting ready to start for the Ranch unless Julia [Julia Josephine Spencer Snow, b. 1837] has changed her mind.   If she has, Orson [Orson Pratt Snow, b. 1860] or Arthur [Arthur Eugene Snow, b. 1870] had better go with Libbie [Elizabeth Ashby Snow Ivins, b. 1854] and you go along with them if you feel inclined and feel safe to trust the house with Martie [Martha Ellen Snow, b. 1865] & Annie and Sister Alder, till Georgianna [Georgiana Snow, b. 1862] gets home.   She thinks Charleys health is yet to uncertain to rely upon.   Should you go now better calculate to stay till last of August [Friday 31 Aug 1883] and I will probable visit you there during that time.

If you do not go with Libbie [Elizabeth Ashby Snow Ivins, b. 1854] and I conclude to visit that region I will plan to come for you or send for you to meet me in Iron County [Iron, Utah].   I may possibly come to Beaver Convention [Beaver, Utah] of July 16th  [Monday 16 Jul 1883].   If so I may go to the Lake and [?] before I return.   I am writing in the dark and must close and send this to the Post office.

Love to yourself & to Libbie [Elizabeth Ashby Snow Ivins, b. 1854] and and [sic] all the rest of our dear children.  Not [?] Annie.   I suppose Clara [Clarence Snow ?] will want to go with Libbie [Elizabeth Ashby Snow Ivins, b. 1854] unless you keep him to go with you.  [?] must [?] to ride [?]  and at home with you if he can remember his Dear Mother [Artimesia Beman (Snow) 1819-1882] -

God bless you.

Erastus Snow [Erastus Snow 1818-1888]
