NEW FAMILYSEARCH CONCEPT
Overview of new concept
Each ancestor has a "file folder" containing all the records
about him (or her)
You select the correct data to show on the Summary
screen for the person.
The other data, correct or incorrect, is stored in the file
folder, but doesn't show on the Summary screen.
You can only change or delete what you submit, but nFS staff
can change anything.
SLIDESHOW - OVERVIEW AND COMBINING IN NEW FAMILYSEARCH
Navigating in nFS and symbols used
Combining duplicate records in nFS
Our task: know the correct data for each ancestor, combine nFS
records, set the correct data to show in the Summary, and be sure
the temple work is done
Systematic way of considering individuals in a family
Select an individual: Check for possible duplicates, compare,
and combine individuals
Spouse and children's view: Check each individual for possible
duplicates, combine duplicate spouses and children
Parents and siblings view: Check each individual for possible
duplicates, combine duplicate parents and siblings
WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO
Register for an LDS Account go to https://apps.lds.org/sign-in/go/login.jsf
-- Your user name and password also allow you to log in to nFS and
other Church websites, e.g. the Morningside 7th Ward and Stake
websites at http://www.lds.org .
nFS webpage -- https://new.familysearch.org
(Note the "s" after "http") -- Log in with your LDS Account
user name and password
nFS suggests we keep an electronic home database with sources
and documentation, so you always know what is correct,
regardless of whether your nFS data gets "clobbered"
See your 9-generation pedigree fan chart of nFS data -- http://www.createfan.com/
-- Log in with your LDS Account; can be downloaded
and printed, if you want
New interface for nFS is at -- https://familysearch.org/invite/familytree_tab
-- Log in with your LDS Account; new interface is helpful to
find corrections needed, then switch to nFS to correct them;
can now add and correct a few things through the new
interface

other tutorial videos there, too
322-page "nFS Users Guide (Oct 2011)" -- New FamilySearch
> Help Center > (See the Whole List (34)) > [Scroll
down] User's Guide LDS Version (PDF) -- can read any of
these online, download, or print them
7-page "White Paper" -- New FamilySearch > Help Center
> (See the Whole List (34)) > The Case for Moving to

Consultants, and/or come to the FHC Thursday

ASSIGNMENT
Log on to the Internet where these MS7 FH SS notes are
stored, so you know how to do that.
Register for an LDS Account and use
it to view your
9-generation pedigree chart of nFS data on
http://www.createfan.com/.
Begin gathering your FH records from home and
relatives. In particular, get copies of electronic FH
databases of your family with sources and documentation.
