Since you got a CD and not a paper syllabus for the Conference this year this handout sheet is a summary of the notes in the BYU Syllabus (Pages 454-457) and the online notes at http://uvtagg.org > Class Outlines > Don Snow's Listings.  The numbers "#" refer to the section numbers in the Syllabus and online notes at present. 
The online notes have all the links as active URL's and are updated regularly.

    1. Freeware to find files quickly by any part of the name wherever they are on your computer
    2. Has drag and drop for file maintenance, can use in tandem with a file program such as Explorer or Q-DIR to move files to where you want them
    3. Very helpful for finding, renaming, forming shortcuts, finding duplicates, and deleting files
  4. EVERNOTE (#36)
    1. Freeware program for notes and files, has many features including synchronizing your notes between computers and at an online website
    2. Synchronized notebooks are stored on your computer and online; non-synchronized notebooks are only on your computer
    3. Notes can contain text, images, URL's, webpages, videos, and audio files and it has a spell checker
    4. Has easy search capabilities through all your notebooks or else only in particular ones and notes can be tagged, as well
  5. Q-DIR (#51)
    1. Freeware dual or several-panel Windows Explorer-type file management program
    2. Drag and drop files between panels, do searches for files, make listings of file names in a directory, and much more
  6. PDF-XChange Viewer (#22)
    1. Freeware editor for pdf's, allows typing on pdf's for filling out forms, etc. -- free for private use
    2. Has split and merge capabilities for pdf's
    3. Includes a very good OCR program for pdf's
  7. FASTSTONE CAPTURE 5.3 (#23)
    1. Freeware screen capture tool that allows you to capture images from online
    2. Capture Options -- Active Window, Window/Object, Rectangle, Free Hand, Scrolling Window, Full Screen
    3. Capture in jpg, pdf, tif, and other formats
    4. Include captions, if you want
  8. PHRASE EXPRESS (#64)
    1. Freeware note program that acts like a clipboard extender with unlimited clips
    2. Can set codes to have it automatically enter any phrase, paragraph, page, or entire document when you type a few letters
    3. Very handy to use when there are things that you always enter exactly the same, e.g. salutations or paragraphs for letters or emails and information about sources of genealogy data
