Dear Martie [Martha Ellen Snow Keate, b. 1865]
I was pleased to receive your letter of the 9th Inst [instant – Friday 9 Sep 1887] Yesterday. I had wondered what had become of my letter of the 20 ult. [ultimate – Saturday 20 Aug 1887] written to your Mother [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow, b. 1831] from Provo [Provo, Utah] and why I received no answer from her or either of you. I am pleased with your success as a housekeeper as well as a school Teacher and trust that you will be able to make yourself generally useful through life and fill an honorable nich [niche] in the heart of a faithful and worthy husband as well as in the hearts of your immediate family and friends. You did not tell me when and where your school would open. If you and the Trustees prefer the main South rooms of my big House [St. George, Utah] at a moderate rent, I would order some larger windows put into the old dining room.
I understand they pay or did pay the County 50$ [$50] per month while much less would satisfy me for that tier of rooms if Frank [Franklin Richards Snow, b. 1854] and Lucy [Lucy Simmons Snow, b. 1855] could do without them.
In relation to Arthur [Arthur Eugene Snow, b. 1870] coming up to school I am willing for him to have his choice [either – crossed out] but should the way open for Josephine [Josephine Snow Tanner, b. 1859] and him to come to Provo [Provo, Utah] one as a pupil the other as a Teacher he might feel as well contented there and for the first year quite as profitable. We will see what time will bring forth within the next 2 or 3 weeks. In the meantime if he can get his work off his hands together with his team or some one to take it to work on shares so that he could come up in time to commence early in the fall it would be desirable. He would do well to consult with Mahonri [Mahonri Moriancumr Snow, b. 1847] and Frank [Franklin Richards Snow, b. 1854] about the disposition of his team, though probably it will be needed in October [Oct 1887] for his Mother [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow, b. 1831] if not for me. I appreciate your advice for me to be cautious.
I sent to Frank [Franklin Richards Snow, b. 1854] a 150$ [$150] order from Eli Whipple payable to me in lumber which if Frank [Franklin Richards Snow, b. 1854] cannot use and credit my atc [account] for the same I would like to have used in getting some lumber for your Mother a little Barn
