My dear Erastus [Elder Erastus Snow 1818-1888]

I improve the present opportunity of sending a few lines to you and I trust it will not be uninteresting to you to know of my welfare and prosperity for it is indeed cheering to me to hear from you when we are separated by so many thousand miles and it seems to me that I can see you before me and hear you speak it is now two years since you left us and when I look back I can hardly tell where time has gone but I have had plenty to busy myself with since you left and there is not much prospect of my having any less to do the coming year but my health is good and I am able and willing to do all that is placed upon me I am still living with Susan and shall remain here until you see fit to call your family together susan sends her love to you she has been very sick she is better today and is able to sit up a little my brothers and sisters are all well they often speak of you and would like to see you they all send their love to you they are all living here except Benj [Benjamin] and Martha your family are all well at present Artimesia [Artimesia Beman Snow 1819-1882] has been afflicted with rumatism [rheumatism] but she is better now Minerva [Minerva White Snow] is living with her mother whose health is very poor Mother Snows [Lucina Streeter Snow] health is not very good at present the Drs. Family seems to be on the increase Ermma has a fine daughter they call her Clarentine is it not a pretty name we were all at Br Heywoods visiting a short time ago and had a pleasant visit he had a great deal to say about your journey across the planes [plains] he wished to be remembered to you and would like very much to receive a letter from you Sister Aroy is here today she sends her love to you and says there is no one in the world she would like to see as well as you she has as much trouble as ever I received a letter directed to Mother yesterday from Sister Everett it was very interesting she has returned from California she says you slept over at her mothers over night on your way to Europe her husband has purchased a farm in Connecticut and intends to stay at home She would like to come to Salt Lake [Salt Lake City, Utah] we learn by her letter of the death of a number of our relations in Salem [Salem, Massachusetts]. Uncle John Ashby has buried his wife. Aunt Eliza has buried her husband and two oldest daughters. We have had the best conference this month I ever attended you will probably see the minutes of it in the Deseret News and learn more than I can tell you. Willard [Willard Snow] has had a mission appointed him to England he started on Wednesday in company with some more elders to the states and to England perhaps this may reach you before him Br Young [President Brigham Young] has sent word for you to come home I trust it will be welcome news to you as it is to me. Willard [Willard Snow] can tell you more than I can write when you see him. I cannot think of anything more to write that will interesting to you do come home as soon as you can for Oh Erastus [Elder Erastus Snow 1818-1888] how I long to see your face once more do not think because I have so much to busy myself with I cannot find time to think of you far from it you are always present in my mind not only when I am at my daily work but often when sweet sleep has taken possession of me do I imagine you have returned to your family and we are enjoying your society again but I awake and am disappointed it seems to me this year will seem longer than the two years that are past and gone but I suppose I must have patience for I believe you will return in good time if the Lord will spare your life which he will I believe it will be the happiest day of my life when you shall return to us and we shall embrace each other again I hope I shall not be disappointed we are now looking for the mail to arrive from the states at any moment we expect another letter from you we look [for] Br Pratt’s company in about two weeks I am sure we shall be much pleased with your presents I forgot to tell you I have been up to Br Bucklands and stayed one month it is a pleasant place I enjoyed myself very much he wants me to come and spend the winter with them but I can do more good where I am so I shall not go I will not weary your patience any longer but will bid you goodby [goodbye] for it is nearly six o’clock and the mail will soon be closed God bless you and may you have a speedy journey home

from your ever true and affectionate

Elizabeth [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow]
