July 29th6 o’clock P.M. [29 Jul 1851 – Year is from death of Elizabeth's mother]

[London, England – comes from Thames River, London, England]

Dear Elisabeth [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow, b. 1831] after sealing Minervas [Minerva White Snow, b. 1822] letter, getting my passporte [passport], paying my passage, am nearly ready to embark on board the Steamer for Hambrugh [Hamburg, Germanyh] on my way to Denmark

The postman brought your welcome letter of May 29th[29 May 1851] and one from Sister Mary Gates [Mary Minerva Snow Gates, b. 1813]. I have hastely [hastily] looked them over and broke open Minervas [Mary Minerva Snow Gates, b. 1813] letter to thank you both most cordially & say that they are like balm to my soul. But mingled with the sweet is the gall. Your Mother!! [Susan Hammond Ashby, b. 1808, d. 1851] Who next? – Echo answers who? Yours & Marys are both deserving a lengthy reply but I must shortly be afloat on the Thames [Thames River, London, England] and reserve it for a better opportunity after arriving in Denmark.

I will further add as an addenda to my will about the $100 mentioned in the accompanying letter that if it is obtained and no pressing calls prevent its distribution as intimated I wish the the odd five dollars [$5] be at your disposal for the benefit of your & Harriets [Harriet Maria Ashby] little responsibilitiesbequeathed you by a dyeing [dying] mother [Susan Hammond Ashby, b. 1808, d. 1851. Yours forever E. Snow[Elder Erastus Snow 1818-1888]
