I thought I sent this in my letter it was an oversight.

1a Calle De Soto No 2 City of Mexico [Mexico City, Mexico]

Feb 28th 1886 [Sunday 28 Feb 1886]

Dear Daughter Georgiana [Georgiana Snow, b. 1862], Bro. L. H. Hill [Brother L. H. Hill] and myself arrived here safely on the 20th inst [instant – Saturday 20 Feb 1886] and were joyfully welcomed by Elders A.F. McDonald and Heleman Pratt [Helaman Pratt] and family. The other missionaries being gone to Ozumba [Ozumba, Mexico].

I was made very glad on the 26th [Friday 26 Feb 1886] by the arrival of your favor [letter] of the 16th [Tuesday 16 Feb 1886] and to learn about you all in St. George [St. George, Utah] and Martie [Martha Ellen Snow, b. 1865] on the Muddy [Muddy River, Nevada], Dee & Dan [Daniel Seegmiller. b. 1836] and their families and the many other items of home interest. Also some further particulars and causes of Millies [Amelia Snow, b. 1871] sickness & Death. How necessary it is for Parents to exercise judgement [judgment] and watch care over daughters at that important period of their lives, when they are in most danger and least able to realize it. I trust that Sofie, with care and proper nursing has recovered, ere this, her wanted health. Am glad to know of the general good health of Mother [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow, b. 1831]

and rest of the family. How I should enjoy a good long visit with you all, and hope to do so, sometime not very long hence, if God will and deems it best. I read with a warm heart, every word and line that tells me of my loved home and its occupants and surroundings, and I sometimes ask myself why is it, that I am so much like a stranger and exile from home and my lot cast so far away among a Strange people, while visious [vicious] men, instruments of a corrupt nation watch around my home, like dogs or Hyenas scenting their prey and ready to pounce upon me at sight. The answer comes from John, who (while on Earth “had not where to lay his head”) “It is because I have chosen you out of the World and therefore the World hate you”. But “remember it hated me before it hated you.” Well we have not yet come to endure all that ancient Prophets did “they wandered in Sheepskins tormented of whom the World was not Worthy.” See Heb 12th Chapt [Hebrews 12]. Well when I reflect upon the persecutions of past ages and the early experience of the Prophet Joseph [Joseph Smith] and the saints in Missouri and Illinois, I feel that nothing yet has happened to the Utah Saints to equal it. Every new success of our enemies however, seems to embolden them and increase their venoms. Causing them to multiply Indictments and fines, costs and long inprisionments [imprisonments]. You say that Deputies were expected in St. George [St. George, Utah] with warrants from the commissioners & at the Reef [Silver Reef, Utah]. I shall anxiously await the news of their results I hope it may be a water haul [?] and their nets be broken. I see from your letter that Mother [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow, b. 1831] had not yet received my letter, written from Willard and the one from El Paso [El Paso, Texas] and that consequently you had not an idea of my being in the room with George Q. [George Q. Cannon] when he was arrested. After that event, a surveilance [surveillaence] by means of the telegraph was kept our us all the way to El Paso [El Paso, Texas], but I do not think they could tell who I was, or that Ireland & Dickson could find any clue on which to order an arrest and we now find by Salt Lake [Salt Lake City, Utah] papers that during our trip to El Paso [El Paso, Texas], their hands were busy over George Q. [George Q. Cannon] so they had no time left to us. Bros [Brothers] McDonald [A. F. McDonald] & Hill [L. H. Hill] start tonight for the camps of our people in Chihuahua [Chihuahua, Mexico] and Hele [Helaman Pratt] & I expect to follow in eight days [Sunday 7 Mar 1886] and I trust that I shall get from your dear mother [Elizabeth Rebecca Ashby Snow, b. 1831] an answer to my last, before I leave here. Your future communications should be directed immediately on receipt of this to me at La Ascencion Canton Galeana Estado Chihuahua Mexico. M.T. [Moses Thatcher] did not come because G.Q. [George Q. Cannon] was substituted. I expect to hear of his being on his way hither through Dixy [Dixie – St. George, Utah]. I wish if you see him, you will tell him we have paid for 20,000 hecterers [hectares] of land equal to 44,000 acres and contracted for more with water rights. Yours, etc. E. Fairbanks [Erastus Snow, b. 1818]
